We continue our employee spotlight series featuring members of the Finance Montréal team with a member of our Fintech team, Samy Bjaiji, Director, Technological Innovation.
What attracted you to Finance Montréal?
What attracted me to Finance Montréal was the opportunity to actively contribute to the evolution of financial innovation in Quebec. I was immediately drawn to the organization’s mission of bringing together industry stakeholders to create real and lasting impact. I also saw Finance Montréal as a place where I could learn a great deal while helping move concrete projects forward. The organization’s collaborative spirit truly made me want to be part of the team.
What do you do when you face a challenge at work?
When I encounter a challenge, I start by analyzing the situation to clearly understand what’s holding things back. I also like to seek out different perspectives, as discussions with the team often lead to new solution pathways. I’m not afraid to think outside the box and test creative approaches. For me, every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Tell us about an initiative you enjoyed working on and are proud of.
One initiative I’m particularly proud of is my contribution to the 2025 Fintech Report. It was a stimulating project that allowed me to deepen my understanding of the ecosystem while collaborating with many industry stakeholders. I especially enjoyed turning a large volume of information into clear, actionable insights for the industry. Contributing to an annual report that serves as a reference for decision-makers and partners was extremely rewarding.
What drives you in your day-to-day work?
One of my greatest passions is understanding how things work, both in technology and in the world around me. This naturally led me to pursue an engineering degree, where I could satisfy my curiosity by breaking down complex systems. I enjoy analyzing, questioning, and uncovering the logic behind mechanisms, whether they’re technical, organizational, or human. This passion continues to shape how I approach projects and challenges every day.
What would you say to a young person to spark their interest in finance?
I would tell them that finance isn’t just about numbers: it’s a space where ideas can truly change the world. The sector is evolving rapidly, especially with new technologies, and there’s room for curious, creative, and engaged people. Finance intersects with innovation, society, and entrepreneurship, and it offers incredible opportunities to learn and contribute. It’s a field where you can grow quickly and make a real difference.
